Brooks England Releases Book Detailing Cycling Culture

THE BROOKS COMPENDIUM OF CYCLING CULTURE

Brooks England is in year 150, which means that they’re going all out celebrating their awesomeness. Heck, wouldn’t you if you were 150? Now they’ve released a new book to mark the special occasion, which showcases the Brooks values and cultures that have served to inspire the Brooks brand, from leading industry creatives, who are as passionate about their work as they are about their cycling.

GB. England. Smethwich. West Midlands. Brooks Saddle Factory. 2015.

Here’s the news straight from the folks at Brooks: “Brooks has a rich history that is about ingenuity, manufacturing and cycling, all of which are relevant in the modern history of Britain. However, with this said, the purpose of the book is to appeal not only to avid cyclists, but those who share similar core values to Brooks.

Excerpt: ‘But until the age of seventeen I only thought about being a bike rider. Then I crashed badly, and the injury stopped me racing. I met these art students in the pub who taught me about strange things called ‘Bauhaus’ and ‘Kandinsky’… I soon realized I could use inventiveness to make a living.’

With the help of contributing writers, artists, journalists, designers, photographers and illustrators (including Martin Parr, Sir Paul Smith, David Millar, George Marshall and Bella Bathurst), this book depicts Brooks’ unique and idiosyncratic view of the wide-ranging impact of the bicycle though unconventional, interesting, curious, short stories, not to mention exquisite art and design.”

For this historic year, Brooks wanted to create a publication that leaves a positive footprint, a beautiful book that fulfills the ‘Brooks way of doing things’ through a broad cultural spectrum. The result is an interesting read for those with a passion for not only cycling, but for anyone who has an appreciation for products that are properly made and designed through admirable craftsmanship.
